Harper Back for National Attack
Posted by NufCed on Friday, December 05 @ 08:42:17 EST (474 reads) |
|
NASR/SSA Media Release
For more than 25 years, Tasmania has been a breeding ground for some of Australia’s
very best speedway sedan competitors, producing no less than six Australian
Championship wins. The driver seemingly destined to be the next to join this
illustrious group is second-generation racer Jarrod Harper. Last season,
Harper joined fellow Tasmanian Brad Smith on the national series trail and he
is returning this season as a contracted driver in the 2008/2009 Carline
Mufflers National Super Sedan Series.

Harper’s quietly spoken personality
belies a breathtaking on-track style that never fails to entertain. A hard
charger behind the wheel who is renowned for his wheel hiking antics, Harper
seemingly delights in swooping around the outside of his opponents regardless
of the track conditions. Having started his Super Sedan career in 1990, Jarrod
spent many years racing against his illustrious father Neville, a 7-time state
titleholder. However, he quickly emerged from his father’s shadow,
winning his first state title in 1998. He has since won two more State
Championships (2003 and 2006), along with two wins in Australia’s
richest Super Sedan event, the Apple Isle Grand Prix (1999 and 2003). He has
also won Hobart’s
Super Sedan Grand National on two occasions (1999 and 2004).

Korn Returns to National Duty

 NASR/ASCF
Media Release Refreshed, rejuvenated and
ready to rumble, Queensland’s Des Korn is returning to the national Super Sedan
spotlight this season as a contracted driver with the 2008/2009 Carline
Mufflers National Super Sedan Series.
Based in Mackay in the north of the sunshine state, Korn has never allowed
the tyranny of distance to serve as a hindrance in his efforts to partake in
elite level speedway competition across Australia. After all, taking part in a ‘local’ Super Sedan Association event
each weekend can involve a 10-hour drive in each direction.
Korn
started his racing career more than 30 years ago in Gladstone and enjoyed
tremendous success throughout the central Queensland region with a multitude of
feature race victories and track championships, including a win in the
prestigious Rebel 1000 event at Bundaberg’s Carina Speedway. After 17 years of racing, he stepped out of
the *****pit to focus on the relocation of his transport business from Gladstone
to Dysart.

Nicola Chasing Elusive Crown
Posted by NufCed on Tuesday, December 02 @ 08:42:10 EST (493 reads) |
|
 NASR/SSA Media Release
Michael Nicola
needs no introduction to Australian speedway fans. As a three-time Australian
Super Sedan champion, Nicola is quite rightly regarded as one of Australia’s finest ever Super Sedan exponents. In
fact, Nicola is one of only three drivers to have won the national title on
three occasions. Having also won five state championships over a 10-year
period, this season will see Nicola once again chasing the one major
championship to thus far elude him, the Carline Mufflers National Super Sedan Series.
The Traralgon-based hard charger
possesses a never-say-die attitude on the racetrack and his penchant for using
the outside of the circuit to round up his rivals has made him a popular figure
with race fans. His memorable performance in the 2007/2008 Carline Mufflers
National Super Sedan Series Grand Final at Murray Bridge Speedway is a perfect
example of his hard charging style. Starting at the back of the grid after
qualifying through the B main, Nicola stormed through the field, swooping into third
spot in the closing stages.

 Tom Worsley- www.sprintcar94.com
Darryl Campbell hasn’t let last weekend’s
Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway washout dampen his spirits. This weekend the
Sydney based Sprintcar driver is heading west with much anticipation for Round
Two of the Sprintcar Association of New South Wales’ Thunder Thru The
Plains Series.
“I, like many others, am pumped about racing at a new
track,” commented Campbell in preparation for the trip.
“Personally, I’m looking forward to learning more about the car at
different tracks and excited about meeting new fans away from our home
track”
Fans should also be excited about DC’s appearance this
weekend, bringing with him two supporters packs to give away to two lucky fans,
with thanks to the Speedwayshop.com and Sprintcar94.com. Each pack contains a
die cast Sprintcar model, DC T-shirt, as well as stickers and posters.

AVALON RACEWAY SET TO HOST SPRINTCAR FIREBALL DERBY
Posted by NufCed on Tuesday, December 02 @ 08:40:36 EST (560 reads) |
|
MEDIA RELEASE – AVALON RACEWAY, 6/12/08
Fittingly over 40 Sprintcars will contest the 40th
edition of the Fireball Derby this Saturday night at Geelong’s Avalon
Raceway. Flocon Engineering has thrown their support behind the event
to increase the prizemoney for one of the most prestigious Sprintcar
events on the calendar.

Defending champion, crowd favourite and the only
man to win back to back Fireball Derby’s is David Murcott. The former
Tasmanian who now calls Victoria home heads an exciting list of entries
featuring several interstate stars. Doubling as round 4 of the SRA
Eureka Sprintcar Series, point leader Matthew Reed will also be ready
to show his prowess around Avalon Raceway against the strongest
Sprintcar field to assemble in Victoria this season.
Avalon Raceway’s Jeff Drew is hoping for a change
of fortunes regarding the weather following the unfortunate rainout at
the venue two weeks ago. The higher than normal entry list for this
weekend has Drew understandably eager to ensure the event goes ahead.

Bishop Slingshots to SSS Stardom!
Posted by NufCed on Monday, December 01 @ 09:39:09 EST (494 reads) |
|
Victoria’s
Harley Bishop took a last lap opportunity on Saturday night at Queensland’s
Maryborough Speedway to snatch the lead from Troy Jenkins and Mark Brown, and claim
the third round of the unbelievably competitive Speedcar Super Series!
Indeed
at the drop of the green, it was Jenkins who claimed the early lead from
current SSS Championship point score leader Mark Brown, Bishop, QLD’s Brock
Dean, New Zealand’s Jimi Quin, Nathan Smee of NSW, Mark George and Brendan Palmer
both of the Sunshine state.
Immediately
the front running duo of Jenkins and Brown raced away from the pack and set
about delivering some of the finest wheel-to-wheel racing the city of
Maryborough has witnessed! Lapped traffic also brought Bishop back into
contention and as the race progressed through two yellow cautions for the
stopped Stevie Walsh of New Zealand and later Brock Dean of Queensland; the
Jenkins, Brown and Bishop trio fought over numerous laps for the victory
position.

McHUGH AND PASCOE CONVINCING 30/30 SUPER SEDAN SERIES WINNERS
Posted by NufCed on Monday, December 01 @ 08:19:59 EST (538 reads) |
|
The combination of National Champion Jamie McHugh
and Matt Pascoe proved too strong for the opposition after the duo dominated the
two main events in the Grand Final of the 30/30 Super Sedan Spectacular at
Lismore Speedway on Saturday night.
They clinched the overall series victory in a
repeat of the previous week's opening round of the tournament at Toowoomba when
McHugh and Pascoe emerged unbeaten.
The duo were the runaway winners of the series and
their total dominance was underlined at Lismore after McHugh raced to a win in
the initial main event that wrapped up the two round 30/30 Championship.

NSSS Shocks Continue
Posted by NufCed on Monday, December 01 @ 08:19:06 EST (470 reads) |
|
 NASR/SSA Media Release
Having been a sponsor of the Carline
Mufflers National Super Sedan Series since it began, Wayne Randall has again
extended his support of the series with a continuation of the Shock Doctor
Lucky Sevens contingency award scheme. Whilst Randall – the only two-time
champion in the history of the series – is only taking part in selected
events on the 2008/2009 schedule, the Lucky Sevens Award will be up for grabs
at all ten rounds of the expanded competition.
As an authorised AFCO and Pro Shocks
repairer, Shock Doctor can provide a comprehensive service that includes testing, diagnosing, repairing and re-valving of all AFCO and Pro Shocks shock absorbers. With
access to enormous amounts of data courtesy of their status as an approved AFCO
and Pro Shocks repairer, the Shock Doctor can offer extensive
testing and diagnosis capabilities that enables an accurate evaluation of which
parts may need to be replaced to maintain maximum efficiency. Such detailed
assessment also ensures that competitors have a solid understanding of their
shock absorber performance. Of course, Shock Doctor use only genuine
replacement parts, making them the first choice in shock absorber repairs and
service.
As a long-time competitor, Randall is
acutely aware of the increasing costs associated with Super Sedan racing and is
keen to ensure that there are prizes and incentives on offer for those
competitors who may not necessarily finish at the front of the field at each
round. At each round of the series, Shock Doctor will be sponsoring the Lucky
Seven’s Award, with the driver who finishes seventh in each feature race
picking up a full service and repair package on any two AFCO or Pro Shocks
shock absorbers valued at more than $150.00. The Lucky Seven’s Award is
a significant gesture that will ensure all drivers have plenty of incentive to
attend as many rounds as possible.

Green Ready to Turn WSS Form around on Home Soil
Posted by NufCed on Friday, November 28 @ 09:29:17 EST (525 reads) |
|
South Australian Trevor Green
certainly hasn’t had the best of starts to his 2008/09 season World Series
Sprintcar (WSS) Championship campaign. This Saturday night when the fifth round
heads to his home track, Speedway City, he is looking to turn his fortunes
around.

It was certainly an ‘Up and
Down’ Western Australian leg to the WSS Championship trail last weekend at the
Perth Motorplex for Green when he finished the two rounds with an eighth and
seventh place finish in the respective feature races but it was an expensive
and frustrating exercise in the process.
“Everything that could have
gone wrong actually did go wrong,” Green said. “Considering what I had to get
through to finish both feature races in the top 10 I am pretty pleased with it.
It was a very expensive and frustrating trip as we lost an engine, a rear end,
a massive tyre bill, and then we were dealt the rough end of the stick with
some questionable official decisions. Each night due to our dramas we were
forced to qualify via the B-main and that saw us forced to pass plenty of cars
and tear up thousands of dollars worth of tyres in the process. It’s a tough
deal when you travel across the other side of Australia and you simply cannot
take a trick.”

Brook’s Impressive Start to 2008/09 Season
Posted by NufCed on Friday, November 28 @ 09:27:08 EST (521 reads) |
|
After showing plenty of
promise since joining the Street Stock ranks towards the latter half of last
season, Adam Brook has managed to make a solid start to his first full season.
Recently he scored back-to-back feature race podium finishes in the previous
two rounds of the Sydney Street Stock Club Championship.

The third round of the Sydney
Club Championship held at Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway resulted in Brook
finishing the feature race in third, backing up his impressive second place
finish at the previous round.
With two podium finishes
under his belt, the confidence levels are certainly on the rise for the ex
Formula Vee (Road Racing) competitor. As a result Brook has now been forced to
reassess his objectives for the remainder of the season.

The Super Sedan 30/30; On It's Way To Lismore
Posted by NufCed on Thursday, November 27 @ 09:31:45 EST (499 reads) |
|
Lismore Speedway in New South Wales will host the second of the 2008
Super Sedan 30/30 events this Saturday night November 29, the
picturesque Northern Rivers venue all set to provide a thrilling
conclusion to a successful two nights of racing and witness the
crowning of the inaugural 30/30 Champions.
Without a doubt, the two drivers wearing the favourites tag this
weekend, and in the box seat to collect the major trophies on offer,
would have to be Matt Pascoe and Jamie McHugh. These two combined to
win both thirty lap Feature events last Saturday night at Charlton
Raceway in Toowoomba, leading all sixty laps to completely dominate the
first ever 30/30, Murray Gegg Memorial event.
McHugh, a Super Sedan Association Series winner at Lismore just on one
year ago, defied the odds to score a popular victory on return from his
self-imposed retirement and victory again this Saturday night would be
a fitting finale to what has been a career year for the current
Australian Champion from the Gold Coast. In partnering Pascoe in the
#15 Sweet/Dodge Avenger, McHugh has placed himself in a very strong
position to greet the chequers first for one more time as he closes out
another chapter in a long and storied career behind the wheel.

Britten Makes Impressive V8 Super Sedan Debut
Posted by NufCed on Wednesday, November 26 @ 08:41:56 EST (539 reads) |
|
Queenslander Peter Britten is
more renowned for his talents in AMCA Nationals and more recently V8 Dirt
Modifieds. On Saturday night at Toowoomba’s Charlton Raceway he stepped out of
his comfort zone and made his V8 Super Sedan debut in the first round of the
30/30 event.

The inaugural 30/30 event was
certainly a daunting prospect to be making your V8 Super Sedan debut when he
teamed up with local Adam Bradford driving his # 68 QLD JBR Motorsport
supported Sweet machine. However, the pair of Bradford and Britten put together
a consistent performance by ending the twin 30 lap feature races on the podium
in third place in what was a fantastic result.
As one would expect Britten
was both surprised and thrilled with getting a place on the podium with
Bradford especially considering the high calibre of driver’s competing in the
30/30 event.

Hard Charging Performance by TFR and Lance Cut Short
Posted by NufCed on Wednesday, November 26 @ 08:39:23 EST (544 reads) |
|
The latest driver to join
Team Fox Racing (TFR), Western Australian ace Neville Lance; had a hard
charging feature race performance during the second round of the Speedcar Super
Series (SSS) at Toowoomba’s Charlton Raceway in Queensland, cruelly cut short
due to a fuel system drama.

Lance, who was subbing for
regular TFR driver Todd Wanless, just scraped into the feature race field and
started the 30-lap event out of position 20. Earlier in the night Lance had
some misfortune in his two heat races; a fifth place and a DNF (while placed in
second at the time), that cost him a chance to run in the pole shuffle.
With nothing to lose and all
to gain, Lance worked his way through the field with some daring and
spectacular driving around the virtually one lane Charlton Raceway track. The
multiple Western Australian Title holder and arguably one of Australia’s very
best drivers never to win an Australian Title, was up to sixth with only a
handful of laps before slowing and retiring due to a fuel system problem.
