ROBINSON TAKES TOUGH LORD MAYOR'S CUP

Former National Champion Mark Robinson took out a rough and tumble Lord Mayor's Cup at Lismore Speedway on Saturday night.

Robinson overcame a strong challenge from current Australian titleholder Peter Britten – and a number of race interruptions – to score a convincing win over Garry Wathen and Kelvin Hamilton.

The 30-lap final was a race of high attrition as more than half of the field retired from the event.

Experienced Lilydale racer Mike Van Bremen sped to a popular victory at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway on Saturday night to break a 15-year drought at the venue when he took victory in round 1 of the Eureka Sprintcar Series. Van Bremen was in control throughout the 30-lap final however runner up Matthew Reed closed quickly late in the race after getting by eventual third placegetter John Vogels.

Van Bremen now leads the Essendon Ford Sprintcar premiership at Avalon Raceway that will reward the track champion with a brand new Ford Fiesta courtesy of Essendon Ford and Avalon Raceway. It was an emotion charged victory for Van Bremen as the multi Eureka Sprintcar Series winner quipped, "I can retire now that I have won here!"

Lilydale’s Mike Van Bremen has started the 2009/2010 Eureka Garages and Sheds Series and Essendon Ford Sprintcar Premiership in grand style with his first feature race win at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway in his 15th season of Sprintcar racing.

In his third race meeting for the season after contesting the Sprintcar Jackpot Invitational at Avalon and the Bill Wigzell Battle of the Bridge at Murray Bridge in South Australia, Van Bremen was in an aggressive mood on the racetrack for the majority of the night to kick off the SRA season.

Starting from position two for the 30-lap final, ‘The Flying Dutchman’ out dragged youngster Nick Lacey into the first turn in what he describes as a “gutsy move”.

TFR Finish Queensland Title in Strong Fashion

Although they had aimed for a better result in last Saturday night’s Queensland Speedcar Title at Maryborough Speedway; Team Fox Racing (TFR) and their driver Scott Glazebrook were pleased with their fight back to finish in fourth place.

After starting the feature race out of position 11, due to disappointing results by TFR’s own standards during the heat races, the NSW # 9 Esslinger powered Spike driver was able to progress forward and at the fall of the chequered flag he had made their way past seven cars to finish in fourth.

Treloar and Caslick Headline NSW Senior Long Track Championship

Multiple Australian Champions Darrin Treloar and his passenger Justin Plaisted along with another multiple Australian Champion in Paul Caslick will head the line up of nominated riders for this Saturday’s (November 7) NSW Senior Long Track Championship that is to be fought out at the Blayney Showground (Central Tablelands of NSW).

The Treloar and Plaisted combination are striving to add yet another trophy to their collection and will no doubt be favourites will they line up in the Sidecars. Treloar and Plaisted has been a formidable outfit in recent years and have picked up their fair share of success along the way.

Redline Raceway Ready to Rumble!

The season at Redline Raceway Ballarat is set to explode on November 7th! After just completed a practice day the track is in excelent shape and whole town is looking forward to the event.

The opening night consists of the Trader Day incorporating all classes and the out & abou series for Juniors.

Brett Mitchell Prevails in Sensational Battle

It was without a doubt one of the best ever races in the history of the Sydney Street Stock Club Championship and it was current Australian RSA Champion Brett Mitchell was the winner.

Last Saturday night (October 31) at Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway (TPCR) there was very little that separated the Ford Falcons of leader Mitchell, Adam Brook, current Sydney Club Champion Shane Carlson and Jason Martin throughout the feature race.

Despite coming under some immense pressure from the drivers behind him; Mitchell kept his nerve and held command for the whole 20 lap feature race distance. Mitchell, who charged his way into the lead within the opening stages, firstly had to fend off Carlson and then towards the latter stages Brook and he definitely had to work hard to capture back-to-back feature race wins at the TPCR track.

Speedway City Victory Goes Begging

Current South Australian Champion Steve Lines looked on track to clinch his maiden feature race victory for the 2009/10 season last Saturday night during the opening round of the Speedway City Track Championship but it wasn’t to be.

After making his way lead of the feature race during the middle stages Lines ran out of tear offs on his helmet in the closing laps and it was in the end what denied him of taking out maiden victory for the 09/10 season.

“It’s not the way you want to lose a feature race and it is both disappointing and very frustrating,” expressed Lines when reflecting on his second place finish behind winner Jamie Cobby. “With a couple of laps to go I had ran completely out of tear offs but I thought that I could still make it through to the finish. Then with two laps from the finish I had approached a group of lapped cars battling amongst one another and that was when my helmet got caked with mud as I attempted to pass them.”

The One that Got Away

No, we are not talking about a fishing trip. Last Saturday night at Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway (TPCR) James Thompson was eight laps away from taking out his maiden TPCR feature race only to have his winning hopes dashed.

Thompson, who had started from pole position, bolted to a runaway lead and looked set to take the victory honours but on lap 22 of 30 that run was destroyed when he tagged a lapped car, who had just spun out between turns three and four. The impact resulted in Thompson flipping over and consequently caused race ending damage to the NSW # 22 Hills Motorcycles supported Maxim.

“I guess it just wasn’t to be,” remarked a disappointed Thompson, who had earlier in the night time trialled 12th and finished his two heat races in fifth and fourth place. “Up until that incident I was passing lapped cars like there was no tomorrow, as I knew I had to put as many lapped cars between me and my rivals as possible. When the lapped car spun I initially thought that I had got through but just as I thought that I tagged him and flipped over.”
