Bourkey scores maiden PCR victory:

By: Leigh Bourke Motorsport

In what has been a lean start to the season Sydney Street Stocker racer Leigh Bourke last weekend (January 1) at Parramatta City Raceway claimed his maiden Feature Race victory.

Heading into last weekend’s meeting 27-year-old Bourke was coming off one of his worst meetings since arriving in Sydney at the beginning of last season. So after finishing third and fifth respectively in his two qualifying heat races, which saw Bourke start from position six for the feature race, his hopes were high. From the beginning of the 12-lap event Bourke had powered into the lead by the opening lap, which was where he stayed until the fall of the chequered flag. For the majority of the distance Bourke withstood constant pressure from current track championship leader, Tim Bink, until Bink spun himself out of contention on the final lap while hot on the heels of Bourke.

“I knew he (Tim Bink) was there, well and truly,” said Bourke. “When I hit the front I just hugged the pole line and drove my heart out until I saw that chequered flag.”

Back in his home state of Victoria Bourke has claimed numerous feature race wins, but never before has he been able to win in his own car.

“It adds another element of satisfaction when you win in your own car and the fact that you know you’ve worked hard on the car to get it prepared for racing,” the Quakers Hill resident explained. “I must say a big thanks to my girlfriend Mel inda for all her support and Darcy ( Shane Duggan ), he’s advice and tips is one of the reasons why the car was back on the pace and I was able to take the win.”

Now that Bourke has now got his first feature race win at PCR out of the way, he is now looking forward to what lies ahead for the remainder of the season.

“I can’t explain what a relief it is to get my first feature win out of the way,” said Bourke. “Now I’ve proved that I can win, I can just got out there and do my best to try and do it again.”

The next meeting for Bourke in his # 69 EF Falcon will be at Parramatta City Raceway next Saturday night (January 8).
