Pleasing Aussie Title Performance from Bourke:

Riverstone based Leigh Bourke walked away fairly content with his showing at Wagga International Speedway in last weekend’s (February 12) Australian RSA Street Stock Title after he placed sixth in the Title final.

Bourke’s showed consistent speed throughout his three qualifying heat races driving the # 69 Portland Automotive supported EF Falcon, where the 28-year-old was able to register a first, third and fifth place, and those results put him out of position five in the final. The originally scheduled for 30-lap final was later reduced to 20 due to track curfew. At the drop of the green flag Bourke was able to stay in fifth place, where he battled with the tricky track conditions; fifth place was where Bourke stayed up until the final lap when he was pushed back to sixth.

“Overall I was pleased with my result,” said Bourke. “It was difficult in final as there were 28 cars in the field and with only a couple of stoppages in the race, the lapped cars were everywhere. In the early stages of the final I had the top working well, but I had to change my line due to traffic and that saw me have to use some unconventional race lines in order to move past.”

After the disappointment of last year’s Title event, where after qualifying eighth in the final Bourke got taken out in the second lap of the final, he has since proven that he has progressed a lot in car development and as a driver. “I knew that my car would be a lot better this year’s event, since we’ve rebuilt the car completely,” said Bourke. “I am looking forward to the remainder of the season as I will be aiming to finish my campaign off on a high.”

The next appearance for Bourke will be on February 26 at Parramatta City Raceway.
