Parramatta City Raceway    24/04/2004

A good field of around 16 cars was on hand for our final show of the year.

The track was looking nice and juicy at the start of the night and I was looking forward to some good hard and fast racing.

I drew position 6 for my 1st heat which just happened to be 1st race of the night and soon as I hit the track I was amazed at exactly how wet the track still was. I held my position for the 1st lap or so just figuring out the track and then started to try and push forward, the high line seemed to be the way to go so with a bit of persistence and a few other cars running it I started moving forward. About 3 laps from home the yellows came out for a spinner and bunched us all up for the few laps sprint for the line, come the restart I jumped on the accelerator and ran the car in hard and wide trying to grab a few spots which seemed to work and then had a close battle with the 3rd place driver but came up short and had to settle for 4th place. Once in the pits it came to my attention that I had run 3/4 of the race on an inside front flat tyre from a small altercation in the early laps so I could not really complain.

The second heat I drew position 7 and again the track was still fairly damp. I took it easy for the first lap again and then got into moving forward, but about mid way through the race while attempting a pass for 4th or 5th the other driver shut the door causing both of us to come together and then collect another car which was coming down from the highline from a separate incident quite hard which instantly killed all power to my car, after a bit of a splutter it fired back up and I continued on but only till turn 4 again where the car died on me again and would not come back to life. After coasting around to turns 1 and 2 the car come to a complete stop on the outside trotting track where I remained till the end of the race. After fiddling with a few things I found a wire had come lose from the kill switch causing the problem.

Due to the DNF in the second heat I was going to have to start from position 7 for the final which would certainly make it an interesting race. After the initial opening laps everyone seemed to set into a fairly fast paced rhythm and it was a matter of getting some constant laps down and moving forward which I was slowly doing. I had got up to 5th when the car I was chasing had a rear tyre go down which moved me up another spot onto the back of a falcon that seemed to be having the same handling problems as me, after chasing him for a few laps he run wide down the main straight which allowed me to move up to 3rd but from there I could do nothing to catch the 2 holdens out front as my car just would not go through turn 3 and 4 with out a major push coming out so I had to settle for 3rd. Not really a bad way to end the year but still disappointing not to be able to challenge for the lead none the less.

After looking back on this season i believe i have under performed at times and been unlucky on others but at the same time have learnt alot about the car and the tracks i have driven it on. I hope to be able to sort the few handling and other mechanical drama's out before next season comes around and will not be happy with anything less then a top 5 spot in the championship. I would like to thank the people that have helped me out during the year with either set up, repairs or just a friendly chat. I hope i can come back next season bigger, better, and stronger and have a real go at the Championship. Until then, Goodbye and Farewell !!!
