Promising signs shown from Bourkey:

By: Leigh Bourke Motorsport

Despite being in the wars during the feature race, Leigh Bourke made a promising season debut in his # 69 EF Falcon Street Stock at Parramatta City Raceway last Saturday night [Oct 30], which indicated that he will be a force throughout the remainder of the season.

After getting through his two heat races without a drama, a fifth and a second, Bourke was more than pleased with how his machinery performed after its makeover during the winter break.

With the fastest to the front format in the feature race, Bourke started from position three, where after a sluggish start progressed into third by the second of 12-laps. Moments later things turned pear shaped when some overaggressive driving by a fellow rival in turn one saw Bourke spin off the track in dangerous fashion. For the restart Bourke was sent to the rear of the field, this was where he was spurred on by adversity and carved his way through the field to finish a solid fifth place at the fall of the chequered flag.

“I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t angry with what occurred early in the feature, but I just used that anger to push me along,” said the 28-year-old from Quakers Hill. “To finish fifth considering the circumstances is pretty good, I would’ve liked to have had a shot at the leaders, as I was confident that I would’ve had something for them, but we’ll never know now.”

In terms of the handling in his # 69 EF Falcon, Bourke was more than happy, and was in full praise of the modifications that Ray Healey from Portland Automotive had made.

“Ray has made the car just that so much better to drive, I am more than happy with the cars performance after it’s opening show,” beamed Bourke. “Full credit must go to Ray, I’m not trying to blow wind up his arse, but I cannot speak highly enough of the man, and I’m glad that I am being able to repay him back by getting results.”

This coming Saturday night [Nov 6] Bourke will make his first trek up to Dubbo City Speedway for the third round of the track championship and it’s a meeting that he is looking forward to.

“I’ve heard a number of good things about Dubbo, I’ve been told that it’s similar to the track’s back home [Victoria] and it will be the first time I’ve competed on a dirt surface track in close to two years,” said Bourke. “I know we’re heading in the right direction in terms of the cars performance and I’m confident that we can post a strong result up there this weekend.

“I’d also like to make special mention to my lovely girlfriend, Mel, for all her help and understanding, and without her all of this wouldn’t be possible,” added Bourke.
