Karting star set to shine in Street Stocker ranks!!! |
|
By
Leigh Bourke
Tonight,
at PCR (12th March), when the Portland Automotive # 69 EF Falcon
hits the track it will have a change of drivers behind the wheel.
The Famous Speedway Karting
Superstar himself, Dan (The MAN) Powell, will be the new steerer
trying to contain the big blue and white falcon from adding
another statistic to its list.
When asked how he rates his
chances come race night, the usual quite excitable young man
replied with a laugh, “As long as I don’t look like a wood
duck, I don’t care”.

The weather was hot but cloudy for the fifth round
of the PCR Street Stocker Track Championship where another strong
field of 29 cars where on hand. My night started well, with me
drawing the #1 marble out of the bag, putting me off pole in my
opening heat. The track looked a little wet in spots but overall
very racy. Read

Written By Dean Neal
Holden versus Ford is the
universal chant in Australian Motorsport and the fact that this
great rivalry permeates Speedway may surprise some and that it
certainly exists in Sydney to boot!

A
good field of around 16 cars was on hand for our final show of the year.
The
track was looking nice and juicy at the start of the night and I was
looking forward to some good hard and fast racing.
I drew position 6 for my 1st heat which just happened to be 1st race of
the night and soon as I hit the track I was amazed at exactly how wet
the track still was. I held my position for the 1st lap or so just
figuring out the track and then started to try and push forward, the high
line seemed to be the way to go so with a bit of persistence and a
few other cars running it I started moving forward. Read

Due
to time constraints i was unable to make our last club championship
meeting at PCR but luckily they have snuck another meeting on the 24th of
April in our calendar which i am eager to get out and do well in. During
the next week i will be busily working on the car changing the diff,
putting new front bumper bar on after straightening out the left front
chassis rail, an oil change and knock as many dents as i can out of the
rest of the car to make it resemble a EF Falcon again. Hopefully a few
things i learnt about the car at Wagga will give me just that little
bit more track speed and consistency to finish the year with a good
result.
Hope
to see you at the track.

N.A.S.R Australian
Open Street Stock Title
A
strong field of 40 cars greeted a nice sunny day at Wagga speedway
for the running of the N.A.S.R Australian open street stock title to
be held over 4 heats each of qualifying then the all important 30
lap final. The track looked very wet down low to mid line and very
dry up top; however after some wheel packing it started to come up
not to bad. Read

After
nearly a week of on and off rain it was good to see another nice day
to go racing. After the previous meeting I was keen to get the car
back out on the track to make sure I had fixed all the problems and
to see if some changes to the set up I had done was going to be any
good. Read

Tonight was the night that I was looking at
continuing some of the good form that I had at my last meeting.
Coming off the back row in of my 1st
heat on a fast track was not going to be easy especially with a few
good guys at the front. I got a good start and rounded up a few cars
around the outside on the 1st lap and continued to make
inroads from there until I got up to 5th where I was
getting held up a bit but decided to settle for the position as I
was going to be off pole in the next heat. Read

Well the old saying about a full moon causing strange things to
happen certainly played true for me tonight. After the good effort
from my last meeting I was looking to improve however due to the
enforced changes to the front end I was not sure how it would
handle. Read
