Girl Power dominates in PCR Junior Sedan debut:
By Daniel Powell

The Junior Sedans made their first appearance ever at Parramatta City Raceway on Saturday night [October 16] and 15-year-old Kayla Duggan aboard her # 29 Portland Automotive Ford Laser dominated proceedings by taking a clean sweep of the three heats along with a clear victory in the 8-lap feature race.

A respectable field of eight cars fronted for the debut show, which set the tone for some exciting racing, mixed with plenty of action.

Throughout the three heats races [5 Laps] the girls and boys put on some exciting action, with the highlight being without doubt the tussle between Duggan and Danny Sims [# 40 Dennis Sims Tilt Tray Datsun 200B] for the honours in heat two, with the battle coming right down to the final lap with Duggan getting the win by the slimmest of margins over Sims.

With all three heat races going the way of Duggan, others to impress were a consistent, Sims, Jason Davis [# 4 Mittagong Auto Wreckers Nissan Bluebird] and Caitlyn Healey [# 22 Portland Automotive Ford Telstar, with the latter really coming on in leaps and bounds in the third heat where she placed second.

In the Squirt in the Dirt sponsored eight lap feature race, Duggan sat on pole position beside Healey, with Keeden Lilley [# 25 Pit Bitch Nissan Bluebird] and Davis occupying the second row, then in the third row were Sims and Tim Baker [# 6 Parramatta Kart Warehouse Peugeot 505] and making out the back row of the field was Mark Gradidge [# 10 I & B Waste Removals Nissan Bluebird] and Erin Rowlands [# 52 Australian Reptile Park VB Commodore], who unquestionably has the best looking car in the field. From the drop of the green flag the form driver of the night, Duggan, jumped to an immediate lead closely pursued by Healey and a fast starting Davis. On the third lap proceedings were brought to a halt due to Sims’ wild ride in turn four which saw him all but roll his # 40 Datsun 200B, thankfully he was uninjured but the was car was unable to continue.

For the resumption of the feature, Duggan once again cleared out, with Healey and Davis doing their utmost best to peg back her solid gap. Unfortunately for her rivals, Duggan was able to maintain a solid lead and greeted the chequered flag first, and in the process creating PCR track history by becoming the first Junior Sedan feature race winner.

Another interesting statistic is that Kayla Duggan has etched her way into the record books by becoming one of a select few females to ever record a feature race victory in any division since the track opened in 1977. The last to achieve that feat was Sue Williams, now Healey, back in 2002 when she claimed a feature race victory in the Street Stock division driving the # 9 EL Falcon, which is incidentally out of the Portland Automotive stable.

All in all the entire meeting was a success with their being no major incidents, with all these young drivers happy with their night and they are all looking forward to next Saturday night [October 23] when they return to PCR.
