Wayne Reynolds was unlucky not to win in
Lismore but is keen to make amends tonight at Grafton
The V8 Dirt Modifieds had one of the strangest
starts to the season last weekend at Bartercard Lismore Speedway with an
incredible 3 cars finishing the 30 lap feature race. The start of the night
saw a very respectable 21 cars, and 15 of the V8's greeted the start of the
feature. Engines, gearboxes, diffs, suspension, radiators, you name it, they
broke it. Normally this class prides itself on reliability and I think the on
again, off again winter break may have effected the teams preparation and
therefore the reliability.
Stuart Herne seemed to cruise to an effortless win
in his brand new Farmer Charlies Chev, but was the first to admit that the
pace of his opposition is a concern." Although we won the night, I don't
think the car is quite quick enough to my liking" said Stuart "These
guys will have their act together this weekend at Grafton, and I just have to
make sure that we make the correct adjustments through the week to put us up
front again".
There is quite a lot of work being carried out
around the racing workshops as they prepare for this weekends Motortorque
Automotive Night Of Power at FM 104.7 Grafton Speedway tonight.
One of the cars that had plenty of outright speed
was Wayne Reynolds in the Brunswick Valley Coaches Chev. Comfortably in the
lead midway through the feature, Wayne looked to have Stuart Herne's measure
before a broken coilover on his front suspension failed. Being the nice guy
that he is Wayne said " There are probably a lot worse hard luck stories
than mine here tonight, we were fast but".
17 V8 Dirt Modifieds have nominated for tonight's
hit out at Grafton with the favourite tag firmly placed on Stuart Herne's
shoulders, but Reynolds, Mortimer and a surprise packet from Newcastle, Tony
Sneddon, just some of the hungry drivers ready to knock the Aussie champ from
hi current dominance.
Grafton drivers figured prominently in the support
divisions with the Stocker podium of Tony Blanch 3rd, Craig Murray 2nd, and
Geoff Hayes 1st.
Streeters also was a Grafton 1-2 with Leanne Rose
coming from the rear to be second and a determined drive from Mark Philp in
the Chandlers Falcon gained him his first Feature win.
John English found success in the Renault Fuego by
taking out the Junior Feature.
Nominations have increased from the previous
meeting which is great news. Grafton Speedways gates will open at 3.30
tonight, with the racing from 6.30.
