Lismore / Grafton Speedway News

Champion drivers Stuart Herne and Mark Robinson are ready with new equipment for the new speedway season

Speedway racing in Australia has been through the most worrying month in its history. Public Liability insurance threatened to close many tracks but in the past few days we received some tremendous news in that our peak body NASR, have secured a policy that ensures us of excellent coverage for the entire season. Although the increase is some 500% on previous years, it is almost an accepted fact that we now must pay a little extra to compete in the sport that we enjoy so much. Making it even harder to swallow is the fact that we have never had a claim at either the Lismore or Grafton track.
We can now focus on the season ahead with some great V8 Dirt Modified action coming our way.
On November the 2nd, at Bartercard Lismore Speedway, its the Neumann Petroleum V8 Dirt Modified Silver Sash, and the V8's head south to FM 104.7 Grafton Speedway the following week on the 9th.
A V8 Dirt Modified is the premier class of car in the area. Featuring 600hp V8 engines, mainly Chevrolet, with methanol, roller camshafts and some very trick equipment. Gearboxes are purpose built for speedway with only 2 forward gears and a reverse. Lightweight and very fragile in low or reverse but absolutely bullet proof when clicked into race gear.
The rear end is also a purpose built Quickchange, and as the name implies, allows crewmembers to change the ratio of the final drive in as quick as 5 minutes.
The weight of these cars is 900 kg, and they are capable of accelerating from a rolling start to 160 km/h in 5 seconds. Very exciting cars to drive and just as exciting to watch.
Two of the top competitors in this division is multiple Australian Champion Stuart Herne and Qld Champion Mark Robinson. Both have just completed trips to the USA, sourcing parts and learning the latest technology to use here in Australia to put them up front.
Get ready to see these 2 Champions plus many more in action at Lismore on the 2nd and Grafton on the 9th of November.
