Lismore / Grafton Speedway News
With our insurance woes behind us we can
now look forward to a fantastic season on Speedway racing. The next
2 races on the calendar feature the awesome V8 Dirt
Modifieds. These are Lismore with the Neumann Petroleum V8 Dirt
Modified Silver Sash next weekend on November 2nd, and the
Motortorque Automotive sponsored race at Grafton on November 9th.
One of the more fancied drivers in the
division is the "young gun" Mark Robinson. Mark had a
successful stint racing go-carts where he learnt the craft of racing
and 3 years ago plunged headfirst into the daunting task of a
V8 Dirt Modified. From 16 hp to nearly 600. Quite a jump. The
past seasons in speedway have been successful by anyone else's
standards, but for team Robinson, the Australian Title is what its
all about, and you can't help but feel that Marks own goals will not
be realised until he has that Australia 1 on the car.
Mark Robinson Racing has proudly lifted
the curtains on the new look number 9 Valvoline/Crimsafe racecar.
The long off season behind, them they are ready and rearing to go for
the approaching season. With the new paint scheme, new sponsors and
even some new developments in the wind, you will definitely be
hearing a lot about Mark Robinson Racing.
Preparing and maintaining the Valvoline/Crimsafe No 9 V8 Dirt Modified is a year round activity for this dedicated and hardworking team. Nothing has been overlooked in preparing the car for the upcoming 2002 – 2003 season. Everything from the diff, gearbox and the Ford motor has all been crack tested and overhauled. Even with Mark in America for a month the race shop was never idle. Right now, parts are still arriving from the states for the engine, which being a Ford, stands out from the crowd.
The team Robinson has always been
conservative with horsepower figures, last year stating that it had
"around 550". On more than 1 occasion, this Ford has
left Chevs with over 600 hp in its wake but as multiple
Australian Champion and father of Mark, Steve Robinson
says,"The engine is only 1 part of the whole package".
New developments in the chassis and suspension components should see the number 9’s performance very consistent throughout the season. The team is confident that the changes will result in this being their best one yet. Mark Robinson Racing would like to show their gratitude for the ongoing support of Valvoline who have been there from the beginning and also to one of their newest sponsors Crimsafe, who are this year increasing their involvement with the team. 26-10-02
