Its that time of year again where Grafton Speedway readies itself for another big season. The big news this season is that in the first time in over 15 years, the Sprintcars are making a return. Not since the 80's have the 700 horsepower things with wings been to Grafton. Track staff have just undertaken a massive job of doubling the height of the catchfence and adding fine mesh wire.
Sprintcars are the fastest form of dirt track speedway in the world, and therefore Grafton Speedway have decided to step up with the fence now rated AAA, which is the highest level achievable. 3.5 kilometres of steel cable, 940 meters of steel pipe, 1.4 kilometres of chainwire, 120 turnbuckles and over 1000 wiregrips are now in place to protect both the spectator and driver.
The cost of the improvements have been met by the speedway. We feel that these improvements are of major importance, and secures our future by being able to run any division and can meet risk management procedures set by insurance companies.
Our opening meeting is on Saturday the 4th of October, in the long weekend, with racing getting underway at 5.30

Brisbane’s Bill Mann will be fielding one of his top quality Sprintcars at Grafton’s opening meeting."
