Action Aplenty in Australian RSA Street Stock Title:

The Inside Speedway Magazine supported 2007 Australian RSA Street Stock Title had a little bit of everything, but in the end on Saturday night (May 5) at Parramatta City Raceway it was Ford Falcon driver Tim Bink that came out on top by claiming his maiden Australian RSA Title victory.

Throughout the 35-lap feature race, that decided the 2007 Australian RSA Title holder, there was plenty of controversy and moments of disappointment, many that left numerous drivers dejected.

Defending champion Bryan Mackney (Holden Torana) was left a rather angry and dejected figure post race after he was sent rear of field due to an incident on the 20th lap whilst battling for the lead with Ray Healey (Ford Falcon). Both Mackney and Healey cars made contact with one another when the latter drove underneath Mackney in turn two for the lead, but it was then that the pair made contact which resulted in Mackney coming to a stop at the bottom of the track. Race officials deemed that Mackney was the cause for the contact after it was alleged that he had turned down on Healey. Soon after being sent to the rear of the field, a rather angry Mackney retired to the pit enclosure.

Another deeply disappointed driver was without doubt last season’s Australian RSA Title runner up Glenn Mitchell (Ford Falcon) who had led the field from the outside of the front row for the opening ten laps before suffering a flat tyre due to running over debris on a yellow light caution period, and this handed the lead to pole sitter Bink for the first time.

Bink headed the field soon after the restart as Glenn Mitchell retired to the pits and held down the lead position ahead of Healey and Mackney until lap 15 when Mackney passed both Healey and Bink with an impressive outside move for the lead. Healey soon followed Mackney through to the top two positions, as Bink was pushed back to third. A tight battle for the lead ensued between Mackney and Healey up until the lap 20 contact resulted in Bink being able to reclaim the lead for the final time.

At the restart it was Bink who headed Healey and Robbie Swain (Holden Commodore) for the 15-lap sprint to the chequered flag and that was the way the top three positions stayed until the finish. Despite carrying more speed than Bink in the closing stages, Healey, who had suffered steering damage due to the earlier contact with Mackney, and at the end all he could do was pray for a mistake that never eventuated from leader Bink.

An overjoyed Bink celebrated his very first Australian RSA Title with a series on donuts on the main straight, as this has been a Title that has eluded him on numerous occasions for one reason or another despite being one of the fastest competitors over the past four seasons.

Outside the podium finishers was the final transfer from the B-main Shane Carlson (Ford Falcon) in fourth followed by impressive Victorian visitor Robbie Bruce (Holden Commodore), Mick O’Hara (Holden Commodore), Bryan Foyle (Ford Falcon), Brett Mitchell (Ford Falcon), Dave Ford (Ford Falcon), and Matt Bidner (Ford Falcon) in tenth place.

Hard charging runs by Dean Smith (Joe Borg owned Ford Falcon) and Victorian Brad McClure (Ford Falcon) were floored by bad luck. Smith, who was making a cameo return to Street Stocks after moving to Late Models, qualified a strong fourth and was running in that position up until lap 13 when he retired back to the pits due to mechanical woes, whilst McClure placed second in the B-main and was on a mission in the feature race working his way up to fifth before suffering a flat tyre on lap 21 and failed to finish.

Current NSW State Title holder Nigel O’Neill (Ford Falcon) was an early feature race casualty on the second lap after a rear tyre failed and he spun along with Healey on the main straight and caused the first stoppage.

Peter Handley (Holden Commodore) and Lismore (Northern NSW) based Luke Gray (Ford Falcon) claimed victories in the C and B mains respectively.
