Bink
Takes First Win of the Season, as Newcomer Impresses:
Defending Sydney Street Stock club champion Tim Bink (Ford Falcon) recorded his maiden feature race victory during the latest round of the Sydney club championship at Parramatta City Raceway (PCR) last Saturday night (January 6) but it was newcomer, Troy Dean (Holden Commodore) that showed plenty of fight in his strongest drive to date.
On a dreadfully slick track surface (post 40 degree plus temperatures), surviving the feature race over its 10-lap distance was a challenge in itself as traction was limited and demanded plenty of throttle control from the drivers.

With pole position left vacant in Ken Schippell memory (a former club member and racer that passed away recently after a short battle with cancer), it was Troy Dean who was the outside front row starter and pace setter in his former Richard Elliott Holden Commodore. However, Dean’s charge was halted on the second pace when the yellow flag was brought out due to a collision that involved five cars and saw former NSW Fender Bender champion Neil White (Holden Commodore) brought to a halt on the main straight.
Upon the restart, Dean headed the field ahead of youngster Tim Baker (Holden Commodore) and Bryan Foyle (Ford Falcon) and soon after the resumption of the race the latter driver spun out of winning contention in turn four, but managed to keep his car running without causing a stoppage.
With Dean out in front it was Bink (who started from position six) who took control of the lead on the third lap and from there was never headed all the way to the finish line. Dean held down second place up until the sixth lap when he had a spectacular spin on the back straight that resulted in him dropping down the order.
The seventh lap saw Sydney club championship contender John Smith (Holden Commodore) slow and retire from the race with mechanical dramas. On the final lap a spin on the back straight by Richard Elliot (Holden Commodore) cost him a top ten result.

Shane Carlson #25
For the remaining laps it was Bink that held down a large lead and scored an easy victory by defeating Shane Carlson (Ford Falcon), a fast finishing Nigel O’Neill (Ford Falcon), followed by Brian Reed (Holden Commodore) in fourth place. An impressive and early race leader Dean recorded a fifth place finish followed by Brett Mitchell (Ford Falcon), Robbie Swain (Holden Commodore), Bruce Clark (# 42 Ford Falcon), Michael Butt (Holden Commodore), and Greg Bayliss (# 12 Holden Commodore) in tenth.
A jubilant Bink was pleased to visit victory lane for the first time this season, enabling him to climb into second place in the club championship point standings.
“With the tricky track conditions it made the going tough where you have to stick to the low line and don’t get too heavy on the throttle,” said Bink, who is on track for his third successive club championship in a row.
