Second Time Lucky for Foyle in Sydney Street Stock Action:

After missing out on feature race honours in the 2006/07 season opener three weeks ago by the skin of his teeth, Bryan Foyle went one stop better by taking out the second round of the Sydney Street Stock club championship at Parramatta City Raceway (PCR) last Saturday night (October 7).

Despite starting from position six in his # 6 EA Falcon, it wasn’t all smooth sailing for Foyle in the 12-lap feature race,  as he entered turn two in the closing stages, Foyle narrowly missed colliding with a spinning lapped car. Had he made contact with the car he was certain that yet another feature race victory would have gone begging.

Fortunately for Foyle he had lady luck on his side – and avoiding a collision, but at the same time allowing the return of Tim Bink (the highest qualifier and from position 15 starter) to close in on him. Despite sticking his nose out in front entering turn three, Bink was unable to deny Foyle victory honours as he defeated Bink by the smallest of margins followed closely by Andrew Espener in third.

“Man! I am counting my lucky stars as I came very close to hitting the spinning car,” said relieved (but a nonetheless pleased) Foyle.

“It got pretty tight on the last lap and I knew someone was there, and when a car pulled beside me entering turn three I knew it was [Tim] Bink. Thankfully I managed to hold him off, but it was very close there on the final lap.

“I was very determined to put to bed the bad memories of the season opener when I was leading the feature race comfortably before making a mistake that cost me victory.”

Espener drove a gallant race to hold out current Australia # 2 Glenn Mitchell, who threw everything at him after starting from position 14. Espener was never fazed and held on tight to secure the top podium placing. Behind Mitchell in fifth place was John Smith, followed by Robbie Swain, Brian Reed, Bruce Clark, Glen Hoogewaerks, and in tenth, newcomer Troy Dean.

The feature race was marred by a nasty crash from Richard Elliott, who launched off the main straight on the third lap, making heavy contact with an outer concrete wall. Although not seriously injured, Elliott’s car sustained a rather large amount of front end damage.

Heat race wins earlier in the night were claimed by Smith and Mitchell.

The next round of the Sydney Street Stock club championship will see a return to PCR on Saturday, October 21.
