Moruya Speedway, hoping to allow the division a couple of shows this year Australian Microsprints  Steve Caunt - Publicity Officer,

Welcome to the first column specifically aimed to improve the public’s knowledge of the always exciting Microsprint division. The 2004/2005 season will be the first for the newly formed Australian Microsprint Association, which is a more powerful body bought about when the NSW and Queensland clubs joined forces, combining their recourses to form a National Committee.

The Cars: Microsprints are 260cc powered 2 stroke methanol burning rocket ships, based on a Formula 500 chassis and weighing in at less than 180kg. The cars run both top and front wings and as you can probably imagine, the amount of down force generated creates awesome grip. Sanction: The Microsprints are governed by NASR, abiding by the stringent rules and safety guidelines set down by the nation’s foremost governing body.

The Microsprints have been known to turn on some awesome flips on occasion, but injuries are few and far between due mainly to our strict adherence to the NASR guidelines. Where: In recent years we have run about twelve to fourteen shows per year in NSW, with our Queensland counterparts running six to ten. However, with the unification of the two organizations, this year we will run in excess of 30 shows at venues as wide spread as Nowra, Goulburn, Cullen Bullen, Gatton and Toowoomba. More tracks are expected to come on board as the season approaches.

Sponsors: As the division gains momentum we are also picking up more sponsors and we have managed to secure a couple who are new to the sport. We would like to thank Harrigan Ford (Yallah), Pennzoil (South Coast) and Racetec in Victoria. Briefs: As mentioned above we are now increasing our sponsorship portfolio, but are always on the lookout for more. Great sponsorship opportunities available with exposure in SRN, on track and on the web from $250.00 per Meeting. Call Steve 0418612300 or email Steve@fireservice.com.au

There’s no doubt that NSW has been the dominant state in this division up until now, however with some top line cars being purchased by Queenslander’s recently, interstate rivalry is going to reach ‘state of origin’ proportions this season. Rumour has it that Steve Ellicotts partner Amanda Little may be strapping on the driving suit this season. Look out if she drives like her Big Brother? (Troy). If you are looking for an economical dirt track ride that doesn’t cost heaps of cash, take a look at Microsprint racing.
